Rubber Parking Curbs – For Sale
When purchasing larger quantities of rubber curb stops, it’s best to know ahead of time how they’ll be packaged, and delivered so you can be prepared with the proper equipment and manpower to accept the delivery. Although we can’t cover every single detail, or account for each and every variable, here is a rough idea of what you’ll face with a full pallet of curbs.
Rubber parking curbs are typically shipped on a pallet via an LTL or Truckload carrier. While concrete curbs offer just around 8
curbs per pallet, the maximum number of rubber bumper blocks that fit on a 72” x 48” x 36” pallet is (49). With this quantity, you can fit 7 parking stops per layer, 7 layers high.
Since these bumper blocks are made from recycled tires, each unit weighs 35 lbs, and that gives you a total weight of 1,715 lbs for the product. The skid itself will weigh about 60 lbs. So the total weight will be approximately 1,775 lbs for (1) complete skid of parking lot curbs. Of course this will vary if you’ve purchased less than 49 curbs.
When being packaged on a skid, most likely metal banding will be used to secure the curbs in place, plus stretch wrap will be applied as well to ensure that the curbs do not shift as they’re moved from location to location.
Most standard capacity forklifts will carry about 4,000 lbs. Since one full pallet of wheel stops is less than 2,000 lbs, it should make easy work for a standard forklift. However, it’s not
recommended to double-stack skids for relocating. Although the weight may not be a problem, the pallets are not designed to be stacked and can topple causing injury to bystanders and damages to the surrounding area. Be sure to check the data plate on the forklift you plan to use to determine your maximum load capacity before lifting any pallet or skid. Also be aware of the Center of Gravity (COG) when handling skids of rubber curbs. Being off-center just a few inches can make all the difference.
Pallet jacks can also be used to move these skids. However, due to the length and weight, a forklift would be the preferred piece of equipment for loading and unloading full pallets of bumper blocks. This is especially critical if you are on an outside job site. Outdoor forklifts work well in this environment and make it much easier to transport and place the parking curbs where you need them. Whether you are working on asphalt or concrete surfaces it’s always best to plan ahead. Having the proper equipment on hand will save time, and save expenses.
