Features of Parking Curbs

When comparing a rubber parking curb to a concrete curb, or even to plastic, there are some features that a rubber curb offers that you just won’t find in any other material.

Let’s take a look.

The most obvious feature that a rubber parking curb offers is the reflective tape. This tape is manufactured with glass beading, and then baked into the surface of the curb in a diagonal stripe pattern. This highly-reflective tape draws attention to the curb in both daylight and darkness. Plus, it is available in yellow or white. This is something that is just not available in other materials. Plastic is normally available only in solid colors, while concrete curbs must be painted to draw attention to them. This can be time-consuming, costly and simply ineffective because it will need done yearly.

The next feature that the rubber curb offers is a countersunk anchor point. Normally, curbs are designed with simply a hole that is the same diameter all the way through. This is designed to accommodate a piece of rebar spike.

While this is perfectly acceptable in some environments, the rubber curb has taken this simple feature, and stepped it up a notch. By offering a countersunk anchor point, curbs can now be installed with a rebar spike that offers a head. This head will anchor the curb and protect it from being lifted off the spikes. This provides more security and safety. In addition, the holes are countersunk so that the underside of low profile vehicles are protected. No more protruding rebar spike to scratch, puncture or damage the underside.

And finally, flexibility is a feature that is exclusive to rubber wheel stops. Because these are manufactured from recycled rubber, there is naturally a flexibility that you just can’t find with any other material. This might not sound like a very important feature, but consider the advantages. Have you ever seen concrete curbs installed on a surface that wasn’t perfectly level? There’s a good chance that one end sticks up in the air. This makes the curb vulnerable because the weight is not evenly supported. This causes early deterioration, and is simply unsightly in comparison. With a rubber curb, the flexible rubber can be installed tight to the surface. This offers better protection, more pleasing results, and an installation that will look like new for years to come.

While there are other materials to consider when installing parking bumpers, rubber offers all the features of concrete or plastic, plus features you won’t find in any other option. Consider this when designing your next parking area.
