Keep the Tennis Balls on the Court

Parking a vehicle within the confines of a garage can be a tricky, if not slightly impossible procedure. You have to pull the car in far enough for the door to close, but yet not so far that you hit the wall or anything that might be stored in the garage.

The same holds true for parking within a carport as well. You want your vehicle to be completely protected from the elements, but how far should you pull up?

In these types of situations, it’s common, and albeit, quite ingenuous to hang a tennis ball from the ceiling. The idea is that when the ball comes in contact with a specific part of the car, say the hood, then you’re in the proper position.

While this is certainly a creative and inexpensive method, is it really the safest method you could be using? Will the dangling tennis ball actually stop the vehicle if you’re getting too close to something? Can it be seen in the dark? Oh, and be careful that you hang it in a location where it’s not going to interfere with the garage door opening. Not to mention, how bad is it scratching the hood of the car each time it touches the surface? Over time, it could cause problems.

Now, let’s consider a much more appropriate option. While parking curbs are typically something that are found in large, commercial parking lots, there is now a curb available made especially for garages. Welcome the 22” recycled rubber wheel stop. These are normally available for less than $20 and are the perfect solution for parking within the confines of a garage. Simply place the wheel bumper at the location that you want your tire to be when parked. Then, as you pull into the garage, you’ll feel when the car comes in contact with the curb.

No more scratched paint, no need to worry if you’re pushing past by mistake, You can’t miss it in the dark, and you’ll never have to worry if the string is getting caught up in the door. Plus, installing a parking curb is much more aesthetic than a tennis ball hanging from the ceiling. It’s the perfect solution.

So now that there is a better way, you can leave the tennis balls where they belong; on the court.
