Speed Bumps & “Cat Eyes” Road Markings

Have you ever seen cat’s eyes glowing at night?  It almost looks supernatural! The glow of a cat's eye at night inspired the Cat's Eye reflector.

The fact is that it’s not really anything supernatural at all.  It’s a matter of reflection.  Have you noticed you can only see the glow when a light is shining on them?  That’s because a cat’s eye has a layer of reflective material inside that allows light to reflect off the back of the eye.  So when you shine a light on the cat, the light is reflected off the back of the eye and makes the eye appear to glow.  This helps the cat to see more clearly at night because any light available in the surroundings is amplified.

This is the same concept that was used in the creation of a “cat’s eye” reflector.  Reflective material inside catches any glimmer of light and amplifies it to make the reflector appear to glow; the same way a cat’s eye works.

We’ve incorporated the technology of a cat’s eye reflector into our speed bumps to help make them more visible at night.  Not only do they have reflective tape molded into the surface that will appear to glow when light hits it, but we’ve also added the extra safety of cat’s eye reflectors embedded in the sides.

Adding a cat's eye reflector makes the rubber speed bump safer and more visible at night.

As a vehicle approaches, any light from headlights will illuminate the reflectors.  These reflectors make it virtually impossible to miss.  This is a unique feature to the rubber speed bumps that make them all the more safe to use.  You won’t find this kind of technology in an asphalt speed bump.

Consider this when you’re selecting what type of material is best suitable to install in your parking facility.  Safety should be your number one concern, and our rubber speed bumps can help you make that an easy priority.
